About Star Printer’s Parts, Inc.

Star Printer’s Parts, Inc. was originally started as Star Folder Service, in 1985, after the owners, Jim and Gloria Meagher sold their printing company.

Star’s original direction was to provide service, rebuilding and parts for folders and other bindery machines. Because of the longstanding experience with presses, the business evolved to include press parts and we began rebuilding various small presses in 1986. As service and press parts matured we began selling ink, blankets and other small supply items.

With the introduction of acid-free papers in the late 1980’s, we noted a dearth of information and technical support in the area of pressroom supplies, so we expanded into the supply business. From our own experience with a printing company, we noted that technical information from most manufacturers of supplies was difficult for most small printers to acquire, so we set about to fill that enormous void. In working with literally hundreds of printers over the last decade, we have done thousands of hours of in-shop trouble shooting and problem solving and Star is now the acknowledged leader in the area of printability answers.

In order to solve many long-standing problems brought about by today’s papers, we have put together our own system for thoroughly cleaning ink and water rollers to eliminate toning, picture framing, drying problems, and a multitude of other formerly mysterious pressroom happenings.

This system is called the “Press Diet^©” System and includes a number of press washes and deglazers that work well together to solve a multitude of printability problems. By understanding what is in each product, we can determine how they may best work together in order to tailor an efficient press cleaning system for an individual printing shop that may have some special requirements.

We have also done extensive work in the area of ink and fountain solution relationships to enable our customers to print better quality jobs with less work.

Today Star remains family owned, and we are large enough to serve you but small enough to really care!

Star Bulletin has been published and mailed free to Star’s customers since 1986. Over the years the format has changed to accomodate our customers’ preferences as to format and content. The most recent change has been to include more displays of the products we have in our inventory, particularly the newer products we are continually adding. Previously Star Bulletin was produced entirely on an old A. B. Dick 360, but in order to enable us to meet a more timely monthly schedule, most of it is being produced on a laser printer.
